Every teacher that walks through our doors is hand-selected to meet our rigorous standards. We believe that a good quality class begins with the teachers; therefore, it is imperative that we pick the best of the best. Each qualified teacher must be an expert in all aspects of teaching English—including reading, writing, and especially with conversational speaking. AELS ESL teachers must have majored in English-related field. Furthermore, we require that every teacher must have an English language teaching certificate (TESOL) and an extensive background in teaching ESL classes.

 It must be said that not all schools hire ESL teachers with the necessary experience. Many language schools compromise by recruiting candidates regardless of their major, and at worst, some may even hire non-native English speakers. Picking the right staff is crucial to any endeavor; hence, choosing the wrong teachers can negatively impact the students’ experience. 

Although we uphold high standards, qualification is not the whole story. All our teachers must be genuine and likable. They must have passion and compassion for every student. It should be natural for them to eagerly help struggling students and aid them to be their best. Properly teaching is one thing, but teaching passionately with an intention for success is another thing.
