How placement works.

Three steps from booking your test to walking into the right classroom.

STEP 01

Schedule your test

Tests are scheduled 1–2 weeks before your class begins. The $100 fee is credited toward your tuition when you enroll.

STEP 02

Take the assessment

Multiple-choice reading and listening sections, plus a speaking portion of 10–20 questions on a range of everyday topics.

STEP 03

Get placed

We evaluate your scores and place you at the level where you can learn effectively without struggling.

COST & ENROLLMENT

$100, credited to tuition

The fee is applied to your tuition when you enroll. Full tuition payment is expected on the date of your placement test.

Reading, listening & speaking

We measure all three to establish your current proficiency and identify the areas where you'll grow fastest.

LEVEL PLACEMENT

Based on your lowest score

You're placed according to your weakest skill, so you can succeed across every part of the course rather than falling behind in one.

Frequently asked questions.

How long does the placement test take?+
About 2 hours in total. That covers the multiple-choice reading and listening sections as well as the speaking assessment.
What should I bring to my placement test?+
Please bring a valid photo ID and the $100 test fee (credited toward your tuition), and be prepared to pay your full tuition the same day. You may also want a bottle of water and a light snack.
Can I retake the test if I'm not satisfied with my level?+
Our placement process is designed to put you in the right level, but if you feel it doesn't reflect your ability you have two options: move up a level by retesting for a $75 fee (this fee is not credited toward tuition), or move down a level free of charge without retaking the test. Please contact our academic team as soon as possible to discuss.
What happens if I miss my scheduled placement test?+
If you miss the test, your enrollment may be canceled. Please make sure you attend as scheduled.
Where do I take the placement test?+
All placement tests are held at our main campus — 3230 E. Imperial Hwy, Suite 125, Brea, CA 92821 — regardless of which campus you'll be attending. Please double-check this location before your test date.
