The 12th week of each quarter is always our ‘Culture Week.’ Culture week is the last week of each quarter and is a fun and interesting way for students to learn about American culture through real experiences rather than learning from a textbook. It is also a great way to test yourself to see if you can function in normal everyday situations outside of the classroom. While in our ESL program, you will have plenty of opportunities to practice speaking and listening inside of the classroom. However, a lot of students tell us that they do not get to practice speaking English anywhere else. This is an important reason why we created culture week.
Culture week is a fun way for students to practice their English outside of the classroom while getting to have fun with their classmates and teacher. This past culture week, students started the week by watching a movie together. Afterward, they discussed their thoughts on the movie with the class. Students also had a game day where they played classic board games together like Monopoly, Clue, and Sorry! Another fun thing that students did was go to a restaurant to eat lunch together. They enjoyed some pasta and pizza and reminisced about the quarter. Lastly, students went to the local mall to shop around and eat at the food court. Students were able to use the knowledge they gained this year to ask questions about making purchases.
After each quarter (3 months), students are given a one-week break. Students get the chance to relax and take a well-deserved break before the next quarter starts. Our next quarter starts on Monday, October 4. We are excited for our students to return and to meet our incoming new students as well!
The application deadline is 4 weeks before the start date. If you would like to enroll in our ESL course starting in October, email info@aels.edu to find more information about how to apply.
